Made-to-measure pleated screen doors
Why choose a pleated screen door?
A pleated screen door stands out among screen doors because of its pleated mesh, which folds up compactly like a harmonica when you open and close the door. This not only makes for a space-saving design, but also makes the screen door easy to operate. Unlike traditional screen doors with a spring system, a pleated screen door stays at the desired position without automatically shooting back. In addition, it is closed with little to no visibility, unlike a fixed screen door that is always visible and has to be opened before you can go outside.
The advantages of a pleated screen door at a glance
For your convenience, we have listed all the advantages of a pleated screen door below:
- Flexible and easy to use - Slide the screen door open and close smoothly without resistance.
- Space-saving design - The pleated structure allows the mesh to fold up compactly.
- Suitable for all types of doorways - Ideal for sliding patio doors, double doors and external doors. Can also be fitted both indoors and outdoors.
- Durable and sturdy - The strong pleated mesh lasts longer than traditional screen mesh.
- Installation without drilling or screws possible - Choose the installation option that best suits your situation.
- Various colour options - Available in 5 RAL colours as standard and available in any colour at an extra charge.
Screen door for every situation: from sliding patio doors to roller shutter doors
Whether you need a screen door for a sliding door, double door or single door, KeJe pleated screen doors always offer a tailor-made solution. Thanks to the different available screen doors and mounting options, there is always a screen to suit your doorway and living requirements.
Do you have a door with a roller shutter? Then there is a special solution: the Micro and Midel screen doors. These extra narrow screen doors are designed to be mounted and used in situations where a roller shutter or other object leaves little room for a regular screen door.
Silent screen door: extra comfort in the home
In addition to the KeJe Original Split screen door, there is also the KeJe Splendid screen door. This model offers the same advantages as the original variant, but with a noiseless closing mechanism based on rope tension instead of a chain. This makes this screen door even smoother to use and virtually silent, ideal for bedrooms and living areas.
Easy installation and maintenance
A pleated screen door is easy to install, often even without drilling or screws. This means you can install your screen door without permanent damage, ideal for rental properties or if you prefer not to drill into your window frame. In addition, the screen door requires little maintenance: occasional cleaning with a damp cloth is enough to keep the mesh in top condition. If you install the screen door outside, it is recommended to bring it inside in winter.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Pleated screen doors
No, in principle, a pleated screen door does not need to be lubricated. The guides and mechanism are low-maintenance and function without grease or oil. Lubrication can actually cause dirt and dust to enter the system, making the door run less smoothly. Keeping the guides clean and dust-free is sufficient maintenance.
In most cases, readjustment is not necessary. Should the screen door run less smoothly or not close properly over time, first check that there is no dirt or obstacles in the guides. If the problem persists, you can check the tension of the cord or the adjustment of the door. Consult the instruction video below or contact your KeJe dealer.

Normally, the tension of the cord stays good for years. If the door no longer stays open or closed properly, the cord may have slackened slightly over time. In that case, you can simply re-tension the cord (or have it re-tensioned). If in doubt, you can always consult your dealer or watch the instruction video.
-
Clean the mesh with a soft (wet) brush or a slightly damp cloth.
-
Do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
-
Remove dust and dirt from the pleated folds and the guides.
-
Check regularly that no dirt accumulates in the mechanism to keep the door working smoothly.
A pleated screen door from KeJe is made from high-quality materials and will last for years with normal use. The exact lifespan depends on use and maintenance, but a long lifespan is the standard. Keeping it clean and careful use extend this lifespan considerably.
A pleated screen door works with a pleated (folded) mesh that folds up like a harmonica when you open or close the door. You slide the screen door open or close smoothly. The mesh folds up compactly in the frame, taking up little space. The big advantage: the door stays in any position, so you decide how far to open or close it. No spring tension, no rattling, just smooth and flexible to use!
A pleated screen door has folded (pleated) gauze that slides aside like a harmonica. You can leave it in any position and it is very user-friendly. A roller gauze screen door has tight gauze that rolls up into a cassette. This door usually shoots back into the cassette automatically when you let go (due to a spring mechanism) and therefore does not stay halfway.
It is not necessarily necessary to bring your screen door inside in winter, but it can extend the life of your screen door. Our screen doors are made of high-quality materials and can easily withstand cold and moisture. However, there are some advantages to storing your screen door indoors during the winter:
- You prevent dirt, leaves and moisture from accumulating in the mesh or guides.
- The mesh stays nice and smooth for longer.
- You have less chance of discolouration or wear due to extreme weather conditions.
Do you have the option of easily removing the screen door? Then it is definitely recommended to store it in a dry place during the winter. You do this simply by pulling the door loose from its clamps. The advice is to always start at the top or bottom, can or do you want to leave it in place? No problem, but give it a good clean in spring and check that everything still runs smoothly.
Drilling and screwing is usually not necessary when fitting a KeJe screen door. Our screen doors are designed in such a way that they can be installed without drilling or screwing in most cases. This is ideal if you want to keep the window frame neat and undamaged, for example with plastic or aluminium window frames.
How does it work?
-
The screen door can often be mounted with special clips, a clamping system or unique tape.
-
When mounting on the day (on the frame), you mount the on the day construction by means of adhesive tape. For this, the product is supplied with a special tape.
-
Only with fixed mounting with screws, for example with wooden window frames or if you want extra strength, drilling is required. And even in many of these situations, you will still be able to choose to mount the upper part with double-sided tape or mounting kit.
A pleated screen door is reasonably wind-resistant, especially in normal use and if it is fitted properly. The mesh is locked in the guides, so it will not blow out easily. In strong winds, the mesh may move a little, but it will not easily come loose. For sliding doors and large passages, the pleated screen door is popular precisely because of its sturdiness and ease of use.
