Caring for your window screen with clips properly – this is how your insect screen stays in good shape for years
Do you have a KeJe Klemhor in your home? Then you know how nice it is to be able to open windows without being bothered by insects. And good news: with a little attention and maintenance, your custom-made Klemhor will last for years in top condition. In this article you will find out how to easily clean your insect screen and keep it at its best - without any hassle.
Why maintenance is important
The KeJe Klemhor is made of durable materials, such as aluminium and stainless steel. Nevertheless, window screens are exposed to dust, pollen, grease particles, cobwebs and weather influences on a daily basis. Regular maintenance extends the life of your screen and keeps the mesh free of blockages, ensuring maximum ventilation.
Step-by-step plan: how to maintain your Klemhor
1. Simply remove the fly screen from the frame
Thanks to the clever clamping system, the KeJe Klemhor is mounted without drilling or screws. So you can easily remove it for cleaning. All you have to do is briefly turn the clips.
2. Remove dust and dirt
Use a soft brush or the hoover with a furniture nozzle on low suction to gently clean the mesh. This will prevent dirt from accumulating in the mesh fabric.
3. Clean with lukewarm water
Make a soak of lukewarm water with a small amount of mild detergent (such as washing-up liquid) if necessary. Clean the frame and mesh with a soft cloth or sponge. Do not use harsh detergents or scouring pads - these can damage the mesh or coating. You can also choose to rinse the product with lukewarm water, for example in the shower.
4. Let it dry well
Let the insect screen air dry thoroughly before replacing it. Prevent moisture from getting into the frame, especially with wooden windows.
5. Check the clamps and brush
Check that the stainless steel clamps are still tight and that the sealing brush is in good condition. Is there any wear? If so, contact your dealer for a replacement part.
How often should you clean a Klemhor?
We recommend cleaning the screen:
- Clean thoroughly once or twice a year, for example in spring and after summer
- Clean more often when using pollen netting or when there is a lot of dust/polls in the environment
A well-maintained screen stays nicer, functions better and demonstrably lasts longer.
Extra tip: storing in winter?
Not using your screen in winter? Then remove it temporarily and store it in a dry, dust-free place. This will prevent unnecessary wear from condensation or frost, especially on wooden window frames.
